Gods Only Weakness / Essay

The kid’s TV show the Muppets was arguably one of the most, if not the most popular kids show for many years running. Jim Henson, the brains behind these award-winning kids show gained worldwide celebrity status for his genius. From Kermit to Miss. Piggy, and Fozzie the bear, right on through the rest of the cast provided good moral value as well as great entertainment on a regular basis. The Muppet related paraphernalia flew off the shelves every day of the week, and especially at Christmas, Halloween, and other holidays. At times sales of the Muppet related items was at a fevered pitch. Every kid had their collection of Muppet Hand puppets, and wrote their own episodes, and played them out with their best friends who of course had their own collection.

Puppetry not limited to the Muppets, has been and still is a kid favorite. It will continue to be as long as there are children under the age of seventy or so. Jim Henson was definitely not the inventor of puppetry; he did however bring it to new levels as he challenged kids’ imagination to the max. Puppetry in fact is a very ancient form of theater which was first recorded in the fifth century B.C. in ancient Greece. Some forms of puppetry may have originated as long ago as 3000 B.C. with this kind of history it would be hard to deny that puppetry in its many forms is the number one children toy favorite of all time.

With these thoughts in mind bear with me as I ask the most revealing question of all. Why? Has puppetry been so popular? Let me try to answer that question, and admittedly it’s a matter of opinion. I can answer it I believe in one word, “control”. Not control in the evil sense, such as manipulating ones will. Control in the fun-loving frolic in the park let my imagination run wild sense. Everyone enjoys an exchange of clever comebacks, comments, and jokes on command. The possibilities are endless, such as tea parties, spirited boxing matches, and wherever the imagination takes you. Regardless of what ever is required of your puppet, he, she, or it never complained, they are always at your beckon call. Simply put there are no risk factors, whatever the imagination can conjure up with no flack, and no back talk. Well no back talk, as long as it’s not in the script that is. Scripted arguments and back talk are some of the most fun. Your average parent in all likelihood has joined in with the fun of puppetry especially when the kid gets to win for a change. The unspoken factor is that puppets do not have a free will. If your puppet decided to sleep in that day, and there was nothing you could do about it, “presto” there goes all the fun. If your puppet had the free will to decide whatever he or she wanted to be or do than “presto” there goes my imagination. The most fun of all is that providing your puppet has no free will, you remain the boss. Come-on admit it everybody, even kids enjoy being the boss once and a while, it’s harmless fun.

Ok friends it’s time to shift gears now, time to get off the blanket and wade out into the deep. You didn’t think that this essay was going to end with the Muppets, did you? So now first question…. If God the Father, Son, And Holy Spirit were totally self-contained, Self-sufficient, and in need of nothing, then why did they create beings, weather celestial or mortal. The answer is family! The triune God longed from the corridors eternity past to share the unimaginable glories of family with created beings. Question two, why did God choose these beings to have “free will”? we have already determined there to be a huge risk factor associated with free will. Conversely speaking why didn’t God make these beings to be puppets? Answer,
“rewards”! this rewards question can be best understood in human terms as the day of your wedding vows. This person whom you are both giving and receiving commitment from is in fact the object of your free will to love and choose. In the giving of your free will you are also hoping for rewards. Rewards as in intimacy, children, happiness, purpose, a future together, and so much more. To remove the free will, factor, then the rewards factor goes out the window as well. God, giving us free will is the highest form of trust and honor he could possibly give.

Never lose sight of the scripture that says, “eyes have not seen. Ear have not heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man, what things God has prepared for those who love him”. Much like in the card game blackjack free will is an “all in winner takes all” proposition. Either we through the vehicle of free will, we determine to go all in or we allow our hearts affection to gravitate to lesser gods. This is  exactly why we are admonished in Proverbs 4:23 “to above all else guard your heart for it I’s the well spring of life, let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you”, we are the gate keepers of our hearts and we will be held accountable for what we allow in. Isa 14:12 gives the following accounts of Satan once called Lucifer, the most exquisite of the celestial beings, fall when his abuse of free will got him cast out of the heavens forever and cast into Hell. “How you have fallen from heaven O’ morning star son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations, you said in your heart I will ascend to heaven, I will raise my throne above the stars of God, I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the most high”.

In ignorance some people ask, if God is indeed God, and is in control, why does he allow so much evil, and pain? Once again, I ask… what’s your poison free will or puppets? Make no mistake about it one day it will all be sorted out with no stone unturned. Those who through free will choose his high road, will be rewarded for it, or those who through free will, thumb their nose at God, and his will, will also receive there just reward. Free will is the all-in factor. Without it we are reduced to cast away play toys. Once we become boring to God all he has to do is toss us to the side, and get another puppet to play with, when you get right down to it God … reducing us to puppets is the most uncaring cruel thing he could do. What a privilege to be honored by him to have the free will to be able to even chose him. The promise of eternity with the reward of being part of his family is beyond what we could ever possibly imagine.

I would be totally negligent if I failed at my responsibility to call you to this high calling. Make no mistake about it, we are in a battle for our very souls. In the context if the great tribulation, when we are required to receive the mark of the beast or not being able to buy our next meal, we better have these matters of the heart crystal clear, REV 12:11 says “they did not love their lives so much as to shrink back from death”. Trusting God for everything including our next meal will become the true believers status quo. As I previously stated the fence of mediocrity will disappear in the crucible of the moment. Either you will curse God for the tribulation, or worship God from a heart of gratitude for his needed grace and mercy at the moment. The prideful arrogant will curse God, and the humble and contrite will worship him, knowing that the end of your pilgrimage is at hand. In closing, those who exercise their free will to oppose and fight God can only expect one thing, for God to resist them. those who truly humble themselves can expect to find his grace and favor.

ISA 57:15 “I live with him of a contrite heart”. His grace and favor will keep these under the shadow of his wing. In the following poem “GODS ONLY WEAKNESS” most should know me by now, of course I don’t believe that God has any weakness’s, this once again is my imaginative way for the purpose of magnifying my point. You cannot fake true humility for God knows the motives of the heart. The equation is quite simple, God can only resist the proud, but he gives grace to the broken contrite hearts. ISA 57:15 says it this way “for this is what the high and lofty one says, he who lives forever and whose name is holy, I live in a high holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit. We earthlings who call ourselves as those of the most high God need to learn to view ourselves as ones who are just passing through. Our allegiance is not to any earthly kingdom, but to the kingdom of our lord. Our preamble, constitution, and bylaws are not found in an earthly resting place. They are however found in what has been labeled the sermon on the mount (Matt ch. 5) the very first of the beatitudes defines exactly where our starting place begins. It reads as follows; “blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” the “poor in spirit” is an idiom for the broken contrite heart. To be succinct while in our sojourn here on mother earth, the shot that we have to know his kingdom ways is through the vehicle of the broken contrite heart.

Never forget beloved we have not been left to fend for ourselves, but we have been given the perfect example of one who has never deviated from the kingdom’s principles. We read the synopsis of his life story in Philippians 2:1-11 “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with this spirit, if any tenderness, than make my joy complete by being likeminded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourself. Each of you should look not only to your own interest, but also to the interest of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, who being in the very nature of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness and being found in appearance of a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross! Their for God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is lord to glory of God the father.”

And now dear people I commit to your well being this beloved poem of mine, “Gods only weakness” I trust you understand that God really has no true weakness, but may it take you by the hand and guide you to that holy hiding place of the heart to emptied of self and revived by our lovely creator, so as to walk in the ways of God’s kingdom.

All my love
